About Bees and Wasps
What dangers do Bees and Wasps pose?

Some of the dangerous bees and wasps that exist in Trinidad and Tobago are:

  • The Africanized honey bee, also known as the killer bee, which is a hybrid of the European honey bee and the African honey bee. It is more aggressive and defensive than other bees and can attack in large numbers if provoked.
  • The yellow jacket wasp, which is a social wasp that builds paper nests in trees, shrubs or buildings. It can sting multiple times and may cause allergic reactions in some people.
  • The parasitic wasp, which is a type of wasp that lays its eggs inside other insects or spiders. Some of them can inject venom or alter the behavior of their hosts. They are very diverse and may be more numerous than beetles.

These bees and wasps can pose a threat to humans and animals if they feel threatened or disturbed. However, they also play important roles in pollination, pest control and biodiversity.
